Gabe Zichermann is the chair of GSummit, the premier event on Gamification, as well as the author of several books on the topic, including the latest The Gamification Revolution, which looks at how business leaders are leveraging gamification strategy to crush their competition. His previous books, Gamification by Design and Game-Based Marketing have helped define the industry’s standards and frameworks, and continue to be key reference materials. An accomplished public speaker, Gabe has delivered several TED talks as well. As the foremost thought leader and consultant in the Gamification space, he will have insight unlike any other when delivering his closing keynote at GSummit on how to find “The Cure for Boredom.”
Dr. Jane McGonigal is a world-renowned designer of alternate reality games (games designed to improve real lives and solve real problems), a NY Times bestselling author, and the inventor of SuperBetter, a game that has helped nearly half a million players tackle real-life health challenges such as depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and traumatic brain injury. She’s worked with such organizations as The Oprah Winfrey Network, American Heart Association, and the International Olympics Committee. She is also one of the most successful TED Talks speakers ever, having done a few talks that have been shared and viewed millions of times. She will take the stage at GSummit for a Q&A that will be about “The Science of How Games Make Us Stronger.” The discussion will explore how it’s not enough to make games that can change people’s lives for the better, we must be able measure that change as well.
Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson is arguably the most famous intellectual in the world at this very moment. He’s been a part of pop culture for quite a while, having been a frequent guest of The Daily Show, Colbert Report, and The Tonight Show to name a few. Now he’s the star (pun intended) of his national show on FOX, the popular reboot of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, where he educates a new generation about our world and beyond.
There is a reason why Dr. Tyson is the first person called upon when entertainment programs aim to teach complex themes to a mass audience. He is able to take topics that are primarily of interest to scientists and other astrophysicists, and turn those “boring” topics into entertainment for millions by make them fun and interesting to learn about. This is precisely what he’ll be talking about at GSummit; “How to Use Smart Fun to Create Lasting Engagement.” In this rare and highly spirited keynote, one which Dr. Tyson has never given before, attendees will learn Dr. Tyson’s secrets for making this amazing transformation in people, and he’ll share his hard-fought insights about how you can too.
His last speaking appearance was at SXSW, where he had a standing room crowd of 3,500 giving him a standing ovation by the end of his keynote. He hasn’t spoken in the Bay Area in two years, and this keynote at GSummit is the only time he is scheduled to be there in the near future, which on a cosmic scale could mean millions of years!
